What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?
IFS is an evidence-based approach to psychology that views the mind as composed of different “parts,” much like a family. Each part has its own feelings, thoughts, and roles, and they interact with one another, sometimes creating conflict or distress. People heal by accessing and healing their protective and wounded inner parts and integrating them into the system.
IFS encourages the exploration of inner experiences, and each part is seen as having a positive intention, even if its methods are unhealthy or critical. IFS helps people understand and unburden their parts, leading to a more balanced and harmonious internal system.
IFS believes that everyone has a core Self, which is calm, compassionate, and capable of leading the internal system. IFS therapy aims to help individuals access and strengthen this Self, allowing it to guide and heal the various parts.
